CIA Director Gina Haspel has heard the audio purportedly capturing the torturing and killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi at the hands of Saudi officials, according to a report published Wednesday.
President Trump sent Haspel to Turkey Monday to investigate the killing and she listened to the recording during the trip, according to The Washington Post report.
Despite news leaks claiming Turkey had a recording of the killing, neither US or allied governments had been granted access to to the evidence.
Saudi Arabia admitted Saturday that The Washington Post columnist and critic of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman died inside their consulate in Turkey following a fight.
The prince called Khashoggi’s murder a “heinous crime” on Wednesday as he vowed to bring the culprits to justice. Many of his closest aides have been implicated in the crime.
